I think that it is important that children have pets.  I think that when they have pets it gives them a lot of responsibility.  For example they have to feed it and clean up after it and take care of it.  You also have to love it.  Pets are good friends.


It also gives children a friend to play with except if it's a fish.  I think that dogs are the best friend to have because you can do a lot of stuff with them.  Some people can't have a pet because they live in an apartment.  I think that is very unfair.  I like to play fetch with my dog and take him on walks.  That makes me get outside.  That is why kids should have a pet. 

Skiing by Calvin

For downhill skiing you put on special boots and then you get on a chairlift.  A chairlift is where you wait in line then you go on to the platform and get pulled up the mountain by two motors at either end.  When you get to the top you get off of the chairlift.  You go down the trail to the chairlift again and get on etc., etc., etc. 


When choosing a trail at a fork in the trail consult your trail map. Your choice is:  Gecko Gorge or falling!  You want to choose Gecko Gorge right?  Good!  If you are confronted by another choice follow this advice, green circle is beginner, blue square is intermediate, black diamond is hard and double black diamond is extremely hard.  You might want to try a terrain park.  It has jumps and rails.  It is orange oval.

When I learned how to snowboard...by Katie

When I learned how to snowboard I was very excited.  I went to Mount Abrams.  My snowboard class was called Squirrels.  There were lots of kids.  I was really excited, but I was also nervous.  I fell down a lot and I was very sore.  Next time I don't think I will fall down as much.  I learned that snowboarding is harder than it looks.  I went with my mom and my sister.  My dad also snowboards and next time I will go with him.  Mount Abrams is very small compared to Sunday River.  There are forty seven trails.  There is also a Maine Lodge and a West Lodge.  At first I had no idea about how to get my snowboard on.  After I did a couple of runs I got the hang of it.  What you do is you sit down and slip your feet into it and then you crank the lever on the toe and put it in a tighter gear.  To get the snowboard off you pull a black clip on the toe.  When you are getting on the lift you want to unbuckle one foot.  Then you skate.  Skating is where you push off the ground with one leg while the other leg is strapped in.  When I'm going fast I need to stay in control so I don't run into anyone!

I love sledding by Whyse

I love sledding, it is really fun!  Nathan and I like to sled at recess on the playground.  I like to go fast, so extreme hills are the most fun.  We can see all around at the top of the hill.  We can hear the other kids playing.  The cold air makes my nose stuffy!!  On the way down we crashed into each other!  We were fine.  I love going fast!

Skiing with Calvin by Alex

Last Sunday Calvin and I went skiing at Shawnee Peak.  The first time I went down Pine Trail, which is the trail under the chairlift.  I saw a lot of people and snow.  I also saw a bunch of trees and there were about one hundred chair lift seats.  I heard the wind as Calvin and I went down the slopes.  I also heard the music inside the lodge while we ate meat patties (p.s.  They are hamburgers!)  After that we did three more runs.  Then we got ready to go home.  The first two runs we went on Pine Trail again.  The last run we went on was Tycoon.  It was so hard for me.  Calvin and his dad had to wait for a minute.  Then once we got back to the lodge we took off our gear to go to Calvin and Emmett's house.  We played there for about two hours then I went home.  It was really fun skiing with Calvin. 

Sledding by Mak

I went sledding with Emi.  We brought two sleds with us.  One for me and one for Emi.  We had fun.  I fell out of my sled.  I got hurt.  My sled was orange.  Emi's sled was purple.  Where we went sledding was clear.  It was in a field.  The slope was slippery.  Emi ran into thorns.  She didn't get hurt.  She got out of her sled.  My sled stopped and I got out and pulled Emi's sled out of the thorns.  I thought I hope she doesn't do that again.  When we were done we went to the house.  Kim gave us hot cocoa and we drank it and we ate the marshmallows.  When we were done we went upstairs and played legos.  We were nice and warm. 

A winter activity....by Nathan

A winter activity that I like is skiing.  Skiing is really fun because I am outside in the winter.  I like to take my time when I ski.  First you have to find ski boots.  Then you find skis and then you put them on.  Then you get the poles.  You go ski on the snow and have fun.  When you go down a hill always bend your knees.  I go to Carter's to ski.  I love to ski.  Skiing is really really fun!  I love the poles too.  My favorite trail so far is the Swamp Trail.  I love to ski in the woods too.

If I could be any animal...by Katie

If I could be any animal I would be a panda that lives in the zoo.  Usually pandas live in Asia.  Pandas live on the ground and sometimes they climb trees.  I would be a panda because they are endangered and people can't hurt them.  Come back pandas!  I would also like to live in the zoo because people would feed you and take care of you.  Pandas mostly eat bamboo as well as other plants.  They sometimes eat small animals too.  I also think pandas are very cute.  I would also be a panda because I like their colors.  Their colors are black and white.  Once I saw a panda in the zoo and it had babies.  Pandas are my favorite animal in the world. 

Youth Art Month

Art education is important to me because I can profit from my artistic abilities.  I draw comics, paint, make sculptures and textiles.  Learning art could help me later on in life because I could become an artist.  I can make my business grow through comics and donate more to charities.

Arts education is important to me because it helps me revolutionize my ideas.  In competitions my creativity helps me stay one step ahead.  I like to draw and doodle.  The arts help me become a better doodler and artist.  Art class and drama class are my favorite classes at school.  We do lots of projects involving the arts.  This in my mind makes us unique.  I really like how involved we are with the arts.

Arts education is important to my community because without it we would not be able to understand things like architecture, sky scrapers and ancient civilizations around the world.  It's also important to learn how to make art like pottery or study silk acrobatics because the experience makes me feel happy and lively.
